Situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town, Department of Magic is listed on TripAdvisor as one of the top 5 bars and pubs in Edinburgh and has been providing magical experiences in the city since 2018. We also have two magical themed Escape Rooms that are listed as 5 stars on TripAdvisor, welcoming thousands of satisfied visitors each year and making us one of Edinburgh’s most sought-after visitor attractions.

Since opening our doors, we have been on a mission to provide the best magical customer experience in the city. Whether it’s someone’s first time in one of our Escape Rooms or they are a regular visitor to the Magic Potions Tavern, our team will ensure a warm welcome and create a memorable experience for everyone. Weekends and evenings are our busy times; we offer flexible shift patterns with regular Friday and Saturday night availability being essential. Increased hours are available during August for the Fringe and over the Christmas period.

We pay all staff the real Living Wage, with hourly rates beyond this based on skills and experience, plus other benefits including complementary escape rooms, comedy club tickets, training and support, plus a workplace pension (if applicable). You’ll work as part of a small team who share a passion for cocktails and magic and are determined to provide the very best visitor experience. Tavern Staff

Our team works to help make this the most magical experience for our customers, helps manage our tavern area and work together as a team to improve our products. 

From taking bookings, to preparing a range of magic potions and bubbler cocktails our priority is to provide Department of Magic visitors with an exceptional and memorable experience. We’re looking for people who thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment, and have experience of similar settings in hospitality or retail, either as a bartender, cocktail bartender, performing background or in customer service. We run a tight and experience driven venue so the right candidates will be outgoing and energetic, a team player with great communication skills.

 

This role is available on a full or part-time basis and offers flexible working, the timing of which can be balanced according to personal circumstances. There is the potential to expand involvement and personal development into other areas such as potions development, customer service management, social media support and more.

Games Master

Our Games Master role is all about providing a unique magical experience for our customers, ensuring that each witch or wizard enjoys our themed Escape Rooms as a unique and enjoyable challenge. 

From liaising with groups, running games and entertaining, this customer facing performance role is suited to people who thrive while performing and have experience of similar settings either as an actor, theatre, customer service or entertainment. Our Escape Rooms are experience driven so the right candidates will be outgoing and energetic with great communication skills.

This role is available on a full or part-time basis and offers flexible working, the timing of which can be balanced according to personal circumstances. There is the potential to expand involvement and personal development into other areas such as entertainment development, social media contributors and more.

Online Customer Service Agent / Manager

This role offers flexible working both in terms of time and location. We are looking for someone to work 20 to 25 hours per week assisting / managing our online customer service proposition. Core responsibilities include dealing with queries into our mailboxes, social media channels and website inquiry forms, plus managing our general day-to-day approach to customer bookings and logistics. We are looking for someone proactive, with an independent approach to getting things done, whilst being able to deal with large volumes of queries and questions effectively and efficiently.

 

Previous customer service roles in hospitality, digital administration and/or online  roles are vital, but full training and support will be given. We anticipate 4/5 hours per day, with the potential for this to be spread over the day to match personal circumstances and our hours of operation. Plus, longer / full time hours will be available in the lead-up to and during August as we get ready for Fringe 2022!
